STORM surges and strong winds in the northern part of Negros Occidental over the weekend caused an initial damage of almost P3 million, a Capitol report showed.
The Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) on Sunday reported that from 12 a.m. to 3 a.m., Saturday, strong winds and surge hit some coastal areas in the cities of Cadiz and Victorias, and the towns of Manapla and E.B. Magalona.
In Manapla, its Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) reported to the PDMPD a total damage of almost P2.98 million.
The figures included nine destroyed and 56 damaged houses.
A total of 118 motorized boats and 23 non-motorized boats were also destroyed and damaged, respectively, it added.
In Victorias City, seven houses were destroyed and three were damaged in Zone 23, Sitio Pasil and Barangay IV-A. There were 67 affected persons.
PDMPD head Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian said the local disaster councils of E.B. Magalona and Cadiz have yet to submit their respective reports thus, the amount of damage will surely increase.
Caelian said that upon receiving the information, the LDRRMO Response Team was immediately dispatched to assess the affected areas.
Also, the team was able to conduct clearing operations among the damaged houses, he added.
