POLICE are contemplating on filing public disturbance and alarm and scandal complaints against the 21-year-old college student who faked her abduction past 5 a.m. Monday, January 8, on Leon Kilat St. in Cebu City.
Chief Inspector Jacinto Mandal, the Carbon Police Station commander, said their initial evaluation showed that the woman violated Articles 153 (Tumults and other disturbance of public orders; Tumultuous disturbance or interruption liable to cause disturbance) and 155 (alarms and scandals) of the Revised Penal Code.
The woman, a working student, admitted she made up the story after she lost P4,000 entrusted to her by a college dean.
She said the money disappeared after she placed in a locker in her school in Cebu City.
Her fabricated abduction story created alarm in social media.
The student was found past 8 p.m. Monday in Liloan, Cebu.
Police Regional Office-Central Visayas Director Jose Mario Espino urged the public not to spread unverified reports on Facebook and other platforms.
He said Cebu and the region remain safe from any kidnap-for-ransom groups. (KAL/VoxPop Cebu)
