A DRUG surrenderer and two job-order (JO) workers assigned at the Lapu-Lapu City material recovery facility (MRF) tested positive of drug use.
Mayor Paz Radaza said that the two JOs have been dismissed from their job. For the surrenderer, she decided to give him one more chance.
Radaza said 20 other drug surrenderers who have been diligently doing their job at the City-owned MRF in Barangay Mactan were absorbed by the City Government as JO workers.
Radaza said that the 20 surrenderers who are now under the City Government as newly-hired JOs were the “kugihan gyud kaayo (were the most industrious ones).”
As part of rehabilitating the former drug users and pushers from the city’s mainland, the Lapu-Lapu City Government allowed some of them to work at the MRF, with a daily wage of P250. The JOs get their wages on a weekly basis.
From the 57 surrenderers that showed interest to work at the City’s MRF, only 21 of them were left.
“People might wonder why we removed the JO workers but kept the surrenderer? The purpose is we would like them (surrenderers) to change,” said Radaza.
At least 30 City Hall employees have lost their jobs after they tested positive for drug use.
