THE suspect behind the killing of a 19-year old sophomore college student of Carlos Hilado Memorial State College-Alijis in Bacolod City was arrested in a follow-up operation barely a week after the incident.
Chief Inspector Charles Gever, head of Police Station 7, identified the suspect as Rene Boy Pesquera, 32, of Purok Salong, Manapla, Negros Occidental.
Gever said Pesquera was positively identified by witnesses when the suspect on Wednesday returned to the crime scene at Purok Sambag, Barangay Alijis, where Melcah Melgar was robbed and found dead on October 19.
Pesquera checked the area again claiming that he was looking for something.
He was drinking liquor when he was arrested by police in the said barangay at noon.
Police recovered from Pesquera a bag containing clothes, flash drive, SIM card, and a P5 coin with bloodstain.
The suspect did not resist arrest, Gever said, adding that they are checking with other police stations in Bacolod City and Manapla if Pesquera has previous cases.
Gever said robbery with homicide charges will be filed against Pesquera, who is detained at the station’s custodial facility.
Pesquera denied the allegations against him.
