DAVAO City swimmers improved in 2016 having been exposed to several competitions, League of Swimmers and Coaches of Davao City (LSCDC) chairperson Antoinette Adle-Mendoza said.
Mendoza said the LSCDC is composed of nine clubs who are actively working to create different swimming competitions.
But only five of these clubs are registered with the National Sports Association (NSA) including Coastland Davao Swim Team, Ateneo Blue Knights, Barracuda Swim team, Jerry Aquatic Swim Team and Davao Red Sea Lions Swim Club.
In 2017, LSCDC aims to encourage the four other swimming clubs Holiday Swim club, Red Sail Swim Team, Aqua Tierra Swim Team and the DMMA varsity team to also affiliate with the NSA.
Mendoza also said that they organized an average of two competitions a year and facilitated competitions including the Araw Ng Dabaw Interschool Swimming Competition and the Kadayawan 2016 Interschool Swimming Competition.
Competitions play a big role to athletes' development, she said, adding that they send their swimmers to as many competitions as they can including out-of-town tournaments.
The League of Swimmers and Coaches hopes to hold more competitions next year and that the Philippines Swimming. Inc. can provide more training to its coaches and officials.
She added that most of Davao's qualified swimmers are preparing for the upcoming Davraa Meet. (ABM)
