HEAVILY-favored Tagoloan Tarantulas take the challenge of Claveria Cowboys in the best-of-three finals of the 2016 Kuyamis Inter-Municipalities Basketball League Governor Yevgeny “Bambi” Emano Cup tonight in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
The Cowboys and the Tarantulas dominated their respective brackets with a clean slate in the elimination round to claim outright berths in the finals.
Leading the Cowboys’ upset bid is veteran center-forward Pocholo Agusan who is best remembered as reliable slotman of Misamis Oriental Communicators during the fabled days of the now extinct Oro Basketball League.
But it would not be easy for the Cowboys.
The Tarantulas have Jeffrey Morial, a former playmaker of the St. Benilde Blazers in Manila’s NCAA League, to lead them.
The Tarantulas also have old reliable in Illich Alfante, Maher Aduave, and Warwar Sabuero to back up Morial.
“We will make quick adjustments if ever since we haven't met yet in the games and we will be cautious,” Morial said.
But tournament commissioner Fernando Abapo predicts a tough and even match.
“Walay makalamang pero inilog ang Tagoloan tungod sa kabatan-on (They will be even but the odds are in favor of Tagoloan since their players are younger),” said Abapo.
Taking the floor in the 6 p.m. preliminary is the friendly match between the Misamis Oriental Communicators and Bambi Sports.
