THE City Government of Tagum and the regional office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Davao Region are all set for the Investment Conference 2016 on January 11, 2017 at the New Tagum City Hall.
Romeo Castañaga, provincial director of the DTI-Davao del Norte, said the event will strengthen Tagum City’s position as an investment hub.
For this year, the investment conference will highlight Digital Economy, Designs and Doing Business (3D’s).
“The latest investment trends and opportunities under these three focused areas will be discussed among various stakeholders,” Castañaga said.
Last 2014, the first Tagum Investment Forum, City Mayor Allan Rellon said the investment gab has lured more businessmen in the city. The event aims to capacitate the concerned local government units' officials and personnel in the strategies and techniques in packaging the city to become investor-friendly. Also, it provides a venue where the government can hear to the plights and concerns of the city’s business sector.
Investments continue to spread in Mindanao as investors look at the island-region as the new development hub.
For instance, Castañaga said that another mall operator is eyeing to open a branch in Tagum City, the SM group.
At present, the SM malls has already presence in Mindanao with four malls namely SM City Davao, SM Tagum has existing malls like Buenas Supermart, Puregold, Gaisano Center, Gaisano Grand Mall, Gaisano Mall of Tagum, JS Gaisano, NCCC Mall, Tagum 168 Mall and Robinsons Mall.
“By next year, there will be another mall to open in Tagum, the CityMall that is currently being set up by Double Dragon Properties Corp.,” Castañaga said.
Asked where they attribute the influx of mall investors in Tagum, Castañaga said the city has become attractive to mall operators as it is strategically located in the Davao Region.
“Tagum is near to areas like Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley and Agusan. Also, with the Davao-Talaingod-Bukidnon road, the people from Bukidnon can also easily travel to Tagum,” Castañaga said.
Real estate industry is booming also in Tagum as the leading property developer, Suntrust Properties Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Megaworld Corporation said its Palm City project in Mankilam village, Tagum City, Davao del Norte is already 15 percent sold out.
Suntrust executive vice president and chief operating officer Deanna Jean Claveria, in an interview with VoxPop Davao Monday, said Tagum is fast-becoming a real-estate hub in the region next to Davao.
“We invested here in Tagum because we want to take part of its growth. We hope to be one of the contributors of the local economy like creation of jobs,” Claveria said.
