NUMBER four Talisay Gwapo-Sunkist shattered the cloak of invincibility of undefeated Blitz-Summit, 86-83 in Class A of the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery 1st Invitational Cup at Tay Tung’s Po Hang Gym in Bacolod City.
Number two Fil-Sino Selection-Beer na Beer advance to the finals surviving upset conscious number 6 Ice Sportswear-Creamy Delight in overtime, 92-83.
Blitz with six straight wins in the elimination round had a twice to beat advantage and they will slug it out anew this Friday with the winner advancing to the finals opposite Beer Na Beer.
Tommy Andren knocked down five triples in the first quarter to jumpstart Blitz to a 29-19 lead even as Sonny Abaring scored eight points for Talisay Gwapo.
Abaring scored five more points with teammates Ryan Hugnatan, Vasquez and Jehu Ayagan contributing four points apiece as Talisay Gwapo cut the lead down to a single basket at the half 43-41.
Outstanding individual performances in the last five minutes carried Talisay Gwapo to victory.
It was Hugnatan who finished the job for the Gwapos as he scored on a three-point play to give Talisay Gwapo a six-point lead.
Hugnatan nailed a 12-foot jumper for a three-point lead for the final tally as Blitz missed on their three-point attempt as time expired. (PR)
