THE commander of Task Force Kasanag appealed to the government troops and the New People’s Army (NPA) to hold localized peace talks.
Commander John Chiong said there should be a healing process after the NPA rebels admitted to have carried out the ambush in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on July 21.
Six policemen were killed while three others were wounded.
“If the situation worsens, all of us will still be affected so as a peace advocate group, it is our role to work out for peace to reign again in our region,” Chiong said.
He added that Task Force Kasanag is willing to facilitate or mediate the localized peace talks.
“It is a pity that our fellow Filipinos kill each other,” he said.
Chiong added that a localized peace talks is still possible despite the declaration of President Rodrigo Duterte of the suspension of talking peace with the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).
“If they are willing, we like them to know that we are willing to facilitate because we like to protect the civilians who are usually affected by the infightings between the government and the NPA,” he said.
