A TASK group that will monitor and ensure that traffic rules and regulations will soon be established in Davao City to prevent fatal incidents on the roads.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Maria Teresita Gaspan said during the emergency conference held last Wednesday that it was recommended by the concerned agencies to pass a resolution for the formation of a team that will focus on the implementation of traffic laws.
The meeting was attended by the DCPO-Traffic Group, Land Transportation Office, Land Transportation and Franchising Board, Public Safety and Security Command Center and City Transport and Traffic Management Center.
This move came after the vehicular clash that happened in Buhisan, Barangay Tibungco on Wednesday, June 14, where the death toll already rose to 11 after the helper of the truck succumbed to serious body injuries in the evening while seven others were wounded and are currently seeking treatment in Southern Philippines Medical Center.
Gaspan added that during the meeting, it was also discussed to increase the fines and penalties for those motorists who will violate the joint administrative order 2014-01 and Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation Traffic Code.
A more stringent implementation of the existing laws will be applied especially along the road in Bunawan, where road accidents frequently happen.
She also clarified that contrary to the previous information they released, the passenger van involved in the road mishap in Tibungco is not a colorum van, as she cited that the vehicle is registered under its operator Abelardo Abelita and he has a franchise.
