A TEACHER, who went missing after crossing a river in Maragusan, Compostela Valley after a heavy downpour and thunderstorm Friday evening, was found dead at Agusan River.
In a report obtained from Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Division showed that the teacher was identified as Francisco Apito, a registered teacher under the Department of Education (Deped).
Three teachers, on board a motorcycle, were hit by strong current of the water while crossing a river at Sitio Cadupe in Barangay Talian, Maragusan.
Army said two other teachers identified as Noel Calugmoc and Jovelyn Mangapas survived while Apito went missing.
The body of the victim was found on Saturday morning following the search and rescue operation conducted by the Army's 66th Infantry Battalion with the barangay officials.
Meanwhile, no single occurrence of a landslide or flashflood was reported in Davao City despite the heavy downpour on Friday evening, the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DCDRRMC) said.
DCDRRMC and Central 911 head Emmanuel Jaldon, in a phone interview, said his office did not receive any report on calamities like landslide and flashflood.
Jaldon said there were flooded streets in the city. He added that the heavy rain Friday night left several commuters stranded, but none were evacuated due to flashflood.
The rescuers from Central 911 and Mobile Patrol Group (MPG) also made rounds to monitor the situation and alerted residents living near the rivers to evacuate in case water level rises.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has forecasted that Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms mostly over the eastern section.
