THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) has initially allocated about P28 million for the implementation of its Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) in Negros Occidental this year.
Tesda-Negros Occidental Provincial Director Joel Villagracia Tuesday, April 4, said the allocation will cover about 4,000 recipients for various qualifications registered with the agency.
He said the agency has set the initial allocations so they can start the tendering process.
“We are now focusing on priority qualifications for Negros Occidental," Villagracia said, adding that tendering is a procedure where Tesda invites schools and institutions that will become "providers" of training services to qualified applicants.
Under the agency's Unified Technical Vocational Education and Training Program Registration and Accreditation System as of March this year, there are at least 60 providers of various qualifications in the province.
These qualifications include massage therapy, visual graphics design, contact center services, cookery, food and beverage services, electrical installation and maintenance, automotive servicing, bookkeeping, and housekeeping, among others.
The tendering process starts this month. Tesda-Negros Occidental will then evaluate the providers' capabilities and other requirements for them to be qualified in providing training services.
Villagracia said they will start the evaluation after Holy Week, after which it will be subjected to further evaluation by the regional line agency.
The approval of Tesda Central Office is most likely within 21 days. The provision of the scholarship grants for providers to start the trainings then follows, Villagracia said.
"We are urging Negrenses to avail of the program that will equip them with necessary skills for livelihood and employment," he said, adding that interested applicants may register at Tesda Provincial Office in Talisay City or through www.tesda.gov.ph.
Aside from TWSP that provides free training and assessment costs, Tesda also has regular training programs like Private Education Student Financial Assistance and Special Training for Employment Program which Negrenses could avail.
