THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Tesda-Armm) reactivated the five Provincial Technical Education and Skills Development Committees (PTESDCs) as it embarks to chart a new policy direction.
Each of the five Armm provinces, namely Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, has PTESDC.
Armm Chief of Staff and Tesda-Armm Officer-in-Charge Rasol Mitmug Jr. said the PTESDCs were formally reactivated during a meeting of Tesda officials from the region on Tuesday in Zamboanga City.
Mitmug said the PTESDCs are composed of representatives from the Department of Education, Department of Labor and Employment, and Department of Trade and Industry, and from the Technical Vocational Education and Training (Tvet) institutions as well as from the service sector.
The Tesda-Armm officer-in-charge said the reactivation of the PTESDCs is needed to constantly engage with the business sector to determine the sector’s work force needs to prevent job mismatch as they work towards the creation of jobs.
Mitmug added it is also in preparation for the creation of the Regional Technical Education Skills Development Committee (RTESDC) on April and to strengthen private and public vocational schools as well as government training institutions throughout the region.
He said the RTESDC will oversee the entire plan for the region while the PTESDCs will chart the policy of Tesda at the provincial level and regulate TVET institutions and come up with training programs in their respective areas.
Mitmug said Armm has been allocated 60,000 scholarship slots by the Tesda national office for this year. Each scholar is allotted P7,500.
This year’s allocation is higher by 33,000 than that of last year of 27,000 scholarship slots. (Bong Garcia/VoxPop Philippines)
