BARANGAY Ginebra San Miguel guard Scottie Thompson will grace the opening program of the Elenita Heights Dribblers-organized Scottie Thompson Basketball League (STBL) that will tip off on June 29 at the Elenita Heights basketball court in Davao City.
League chairman Japs Sabio, in a phone interview with VoxPop Davao Tuesday, June 27, confirmed that the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) star will spice up the opening ceremony of the annual event that aims to promote basketball, camaraderie, and physical fitness in their community.
"I already talked with Thompson and he said he is going. He is here in the city," Sabio said, adding that Thompson’s presence will surely inspire the participants.
The Elenita Heights Dribblers had been hosting basketball leagues since 2009 as exposure for young players.
Eight teams including Gjaps Pirates, Heartworks, Minnie Mickey Mouse Taxi, BC Cuerpo Construction, MCC Transport Philippines, Tan Crusaders and El Grande Multi-Purpose Cooperative confirmed their entries.
The event is sponsored by Natasha, Heartworks, Bmeg, Minnie Mickey Mouse Taxi, Pigrolac, Une2hai, Pound for Pound Fitness Davao and Thompson's Sports Hair Shop.
