FOUR months before taking the 2016 electrical engineering licensure examinations, Alfred Isaac Ajo, 22, decided to avoid Facebook to focus on his review.
“Dili man sad nako hilig mag-Facebook (I’m not fond of Facebook),” he said.
The move paid off after Ajo topped the annual board exams held in Cebu last Sept. 2 and 3.
Ajo, a graduate of Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT-U), earned a passing rating of 92.40 percent.
In an interview yesterday, Ajo said he didn’t expect to top the exams, although he admitted he was aspiring to be part of the top notchers’ list.
Ajo, who hails from Barangay Labangon in Cebu City, is the second of four children.
His father is a registered civil engineer while his mother is a public school teacher.
Ajo said he was destined to be an engineer like his father and an older sister.
He credited his parents for developing his study habits.
“The secret to my success was always been my parents. They’ve trained me to really focus on my studies ever since I was still in my elementary years,” Ajo said.
He carried this attitude towards his studies to college. Ajo graduated magna cum laude last March.
Relax
But he said it was not an all work-no play situation while he was reviewing. Ajo said he also went out with friends to relax.
When the exam day was approaching, Ajo said he couldn’t sleep.
“Tulo ka adlaw kong walay tulog ato. Pag-exam na, igo lang kong mopiyong kadiyot para makapahuway (I didn’t sleep for three days. I’d just close my eyes to get some rest),” he said.
Ajo said he immediately received job offers from various companies, including a local electric distribution company, after topping the exams.
But he said he plans to take some time off before deciding on the job offers.
“I just want to celebrate my achievement with my friends and family before mo-decide ko,” he said.
After four months without Facebok, Ajo opened his account last Thursday. In a post, he thanked his family, friends and other people who supported him.
“I offer this victory to all of you, and I am more than happy that I have made you all proud,” he said.
