THE Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CCDRRMC) is prohibiting tourists from visiting the flower farm in Sitio Tawagan, Barangay Sirao.
This, after a landslide hit the area last Monday.
In a resolution passed yesterday afternoon, the CCDRRMC said there is a tension crack seen about 30 meters from the farm.
Earlier in the day, Councilor Jerry Guardo sought for the temporary closure of the flower farm for safety reasons.
Guardo, chairperson of the City Council’s committee on infrastructure and urban planning, also asked the barangay officials to close the road where the landslide occurred.
He also wants the Department of Tourism and the Cebu City Tourism Commission to issue an advisory about the matter.
The councilor disclosed he talked with the owners of the flower farm and said they will heed the directive of the City Government.
The closure of the farm, he said, will only be temporary or until the Mines and Geosciences Bureau 7 can inspect the area.
Based on their initial inspection, Guardo said the soil in the site remains unstable.
The road also is still “too dangerous” for the public to use.
He, however, said motorcycles-for-hire are seen using the road despite the cracks.
Guardo advised motorists to take an alternative road in Barangay Adlaon when going to Sirao.
He urged the remaining barangays in the city to submit a list of their landslide and flood-prone areas so it will be declared as danger zones.
Guardo plans to file an ordinance prohibiting the public to build structures and park their vehicles in these areas.
Police are also monitoring Sirao after Monday’s massive landslide.
Cebu City Police Office Director Joel Doria also said he alerted all police stations, particularly Police Station 8 in Barangay Talamban, for possible search and rescue operations .
Residents living near the rivers and in mountainous areas are advised by the police to evacuate following the recent landslides.
Doria said a platoon as well as the members of the Cebu City Public Safety Company is ready to respond in case an another emergency occurs.
