THE trial of five alleged Maute group members accused in the September 2, 2016 Roxas night market in Davao City was reset on July 28, for security reasons.

Regional Trial Court Branch 33 Lope Callo set the arraignment of TJ Macabalang, Wendel Apostol Facturan, Musali Mustapha, Zack Villanueva Lopez and Jericho De Rome on Friday, June 23, for their multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder cases.

The bombing at the Roxas night market killed 15 and injured 69 others.

Based on reports only the five accused along with seven others were also indicted for terrorism, in violation of Section 3 of Republic Act 9374 (Human Security Act).

The charges against the others were dropped. Some of the cleared respondents were either minors or turned into state witnesses.

The Office of the City Prosecutor filed a petition before the Department of Justice to move the trial and detention of the accused to another place. (KVC)
