TROPICAL Storm Jolina (international name: Pakhar) is now over Quirino province after it made landfall over Aurora province Friday night, the country's weather agency said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that as of 10 p.m. Friday, August 25, the center of the tropical storm was in the vicinity of Maddela, Quirino.
Jolina, which has sustained winds of 80 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 110 kph, is expected to move northwest at 19 kph, Pagasa said, adding that the storm is expected to be at 235 km west northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte on Saturday night.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Number 2 is raised over the provinces of Isabela, Aurora, Quirino, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Benguet, Abra, La Union and Nueva Vizcaya.
Cagayan including Babuyan group of islands, Apayao, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, and Northern Quezon including Polillo island are placed under Signal Number 1.
Pagasa said residents in these areas, especially those under tropical warning signals, are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. (VoxPop Philippines)
