Truck runs over motorcycle rider in Pasay

A MOTORCYCLE rider was killed early Sunday morning, October 8, after he was run over by a 14-wheeler truck along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA)-Tramo in Pasay City.

Senior Police Officer Ricky Murillo, case investigator, said that based on the account of truck driver Romeo Gastillo, the motorcycle rider identified as Johnny Raguindi tried to overtake the white sedan in front of him.

"Nung sinubukan daw mag-overtake nung motor medyo nasagi daw nung kotse kaya napatagilid kaya nagulungan niya," he said.

"Hindi nga rin daw niya (Gastillo) alam na nasagasaan niya noong naramdaman nalang niya na parang may nadaanan siya saka lang siya tumigil at bumaba ng truck at saka lang niya nakita 'yung biktima," Murillo added.

(The car sideswiped the motorcycle, causing it to fall on its side. He didn't know that he had run over the victim, but he stopped when he felt the truck hit something. That was when he saw the victim.)

Gastillo, who came from Batangas and was bound for Caloocan, denied that he was overspeeding. He maintained that the incident was not his fault.

Murillo said Gastillo, who is already under police custody, will be facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo/VoxPop Philippines)
