ALL systems are go for the staging of the "One Vision, One Goal and One League"-themed United Basketball League (UBL) slated July 1 at the Margarita Village Gym, J.P. Laurel Avenue, Davao City.

UBL tournament director Rael Diaz told VoxPop Davao Wednesday, June 21, that the league, backed by Karis Sports and Fellowship of Christian Athletics, will jumpstart with a simple opening ceremony before the games begin.

"UBL executive director CefAyco will grace the opening program," Diaz said, adding that former Chicago Bulls player James Booyer and Art Talley of MPac will be present.

Diaz is also planning to invite Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office office-in-charge Mikey Aportadera to be one of the speakers of the program.

The annual cagefest, according to Diaz, is a grassroots development program that provides an avenue for aspiring basketball players to develop their skills and prepare them for bigger events in the future.

The tournament also serves as a qualifying leg for the UBL Davao Regional Finals set in October this year.

Categories entered are mini (born 2005), cadet (born 2002) and junior (born 1999).

Trophies and medals will be awarded to the winners of the cagefest officiated by the National Referees Commission. (ABM)
