THE University of the Cordilleras (UC) launched its newest cultural offering, “Cor De Mayo,” on Wednesday afternoon, May 17.
Engineer Aloysius Mapalo, Dean for Student Affairs and Services said the event, eyed to be celebrated annually, is a Codilleran May festival featuring the region’s best.
The launching was marked by the opening of an Eros Goze photo exhibit featuring the “UC Saeng ya Kasay Cultural Ensemble,” in their traditional attire.
Goze, who started in the City as a fashion designer, is now one of the most respected in the United Arab Emirates for his designs and his unique fashion photography.
He was also hailed as Illustrado Magazine as part of the 100 most influential Filipinos for 2016.
The magazine features Filipinos in various fields who have made an impact in the Gulf, breaking into the international industry and setting the standard for Filipinos worldwide.
On Thursday, May 18 a symposium on Cultural Sensitivity will be hosted by the UC with the Cordillera News Agency Foundation led by Sonia Daoas, former UC Vice President for Administration and an advocate of culture.
Daoas will talk on the perception of the younger generation towards indigenous cultural tradition and heritage in the modern age.
The festival will culminate with a cultural show featuring Cordilleran inspired performances by the UC chorale, orchestra and senior high dance club while the “UC Saeng ya Kasay Cultural Ensemble” will perform dances from the six provinces of the region.
Every month of May is National Heritage Month and is celebrated nationwide with the theme is “Malasakit Para Sa Pamana” (Care for Heritage).
