FORMER bowler of the year Doctor Larnie Vencer topped the recently-concluded July Shoot-Out Finale of the Tenpin Masters Challenge (TMC) Season Four at Lopue’s East Bowling Center in Villamonte, Bacolod City.
The 51-year-old hotshot emerged on top against eventual first runner-up Richel Gumban on a one-ball throw to break the tie of 184 pinfalls.
Number 4 seed Gumban was leading by a pin halfway of the game when seeded No. 2 Vencer made a double strike on the sixth frame to take the lead.
Gumban never gave up and managed to spare on the ninth and a double bagger on the last frame for a 184-all final score.
Vencer had a plus 10 handicap points per game while Gumban had 15.
“I’m inspired with my new 14-pound ball as the old heavy ball is taking its toll on my arm,” the bowler doctor shared.
The practicing internal medicine and adult hematologist captured the bowler of the year title in 2015.
Seeded No. 3 OJ Lopue secured the second runner-up honor with 193 against seeded No. 1 Herman Santos who struggled with 173.
In the crossover semi-final, Gumban defeated Santos, 199-185 while Vencer routed Lopue, 221-174.
Philippine Bowling Congress president Guillermo Mallillin commended the Sugarbowl Tenpin Association Inc.’s (STAI) bowling program and participated in the July 2017 King of Hilit-Hilit Lanes.
The qualifying play date resumes tomorrow at 8 p.m.
The top ten qualifiers will play in the Masters Event for a five-game elimination round on August 31 with prizes for the top five. Only the top four will advance to the Shoot-Out Finale.
This season’s TMC, organized by the officers of STAI, is played every Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m. (HGD)
