“ANY move to oust President Rodrigo Duterte will not prosper.”
This is the belief of Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, who said yesterday that Duterte is a very popular president.
“(In the past), we have very unpopular presidents who were not ousted,” he added.
Lacson was reacting to reports that there is a plot to oust Duterte.
“This administration is very young. I don’t think it’s real. Definitely, it’s not going to prosper,” he said.
The vice governor added that he thinks it is just part of the propaganda of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Duterte’s ally.
Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said that any move to oust Duterte “does not help” in addressing the problems in the country, adding that it was unjust that Duterte's adversaries were plotting to remove him from office.
The Liberal Party (LP) has been tagged as behind the plot to impeach Duterte but Vice President Leni Robredo has since denied the allegation against her party.
Despite the alleged ouster moves, Andanar said the Duterte administration would fulfill its job in serving the Filipino people.
Meanwhile, on the ouster of Senator Leila de Lima as chairman of Senate committee on justice, Lacson said that “in a collegial body, the majority rules. Unfortunately, it ended that way.”
He said that he believes De Lima was just doing her job, “but if majority of the Senate feels otherwise, that’s their prerogative.”
De Lima was the subject of the House investigation on Tuesday, which was initiated by the allies of Duterte, on her alleged involvement in the proliferation of illegal drugs in the national penitentiary when she was still the Justice secretary. (With reports from Sunnex)
