Village chief nabbed for unlicensed gun possession

A VILLAGE official was arrested in a law enforcement operation in the town of Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported on Friday, September 22.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested official as Virgilio Usad, the chief of Barangay Don Jose Aguirre, Manukan town.

Usad was nabbed around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, September 20, in the village of Don Jose Aguirre, Manukan.

Galvez said a search warrant was issued against Usad for violation of Republic Act 10591, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Girearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Seized from Usad's house was a caliber .45 pistol with 10 live ammunition and expired firearm license.

Galvez said the official was detained pending the filing of appropriate charges against him. (VoxPop Philippines)
