Vinluan: Aging and experience

EVEN in the absence of actual medical problems, the aging process gradually lowers the efficiency of the heart, arteries, lungs, and the permissible limits of physical activity of an individual.

Every athlete knows that he is old at age 30 and over the hill at 35, then they get ready retiring at age 40.

Most of us are non-athletes and we resist thinking of ourselves as old until such time we receive our social security pensions.

Even then, the years progressively lower one’s abilities. Note, the target heart rate decreases about one heart beat per year of age. Thus medical physicians use target heart rates during an electrocardiogram check.

Used primarily to determine the presence or absence of heart disease, it is also useful in planning the intensity of an exercise program for an individual. The heart rate signals how far the heart can be pushed, because as the years pass by it divides us into four approximate exercise categories.

Despite some individual exceptions, and unless individuals discloses significant handicap or provokes a warning from the doctor a thirty year old individual can do any kind of exercise they wish any anything they enjoy that regularly exerts their muscles. As your fine edge wears off from 30 to 50 years old, you can have your choice of exercise routines or sports, but before indulging in anything strenuous, take the precaution of getting your doctor’s advice.

Aging is a natural human nature that also imposes deterioration of the physical condition of middle-age individuals. In their fifties, a well conditioned individual can do almost as well as younger men. But often, individuals in this age category want to condition their bodies but can’t be done overnight.

Although it may take longer, you can still condition a middle-age body, because only when you again measure up to physical fitness standards should you consider indulging yourself in arduous sports, consider walking as a start to achieve body conditioning. Regular checkups with your doctor will also keep you safer.

People tend to be sedentary in their sixties much that they should avoid vigorous activities. However, walking, swimming or cycling can do them good, by faithfully following a program of such activities it can eventually produce improvement of the body in appearance, vigor, and mental alertness, because just by walking everyday can take fifteen years off your age.
