THE Food and Drug Administration (FDA) urged all consumers, who are into tea products, not to purchase the Bignay Herbal Tea, as this may poses potential health problem.
According to FDA advisory, the Bignay Herbal Tea product has not been registered to the agency, thus, all healthcare professionals and the public are warned to be vigilant of the unregistered product.
The FDA directed all establishments and outlets to stop buying, selling and/or dispensing the unregistered tea product. There are penalties for selling unregistered products.
Selling or offering for sale of the Bignay Herbal Tea is in direct violation of the Republic Act No. 9711 or The Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009.
The agency has ordered all its Field Regulatory Operations Office (FROO) nationwide to monitor the availability of the unregistered tea product.
All local government units and law enforcement agencies are also requested to ensure that the unregistered product is not sold or offered for sale in their localities or area of jurisdiction.
"In addition to inspection of establishments, product evaluation, registration, and testing are measures that the government undertakes to ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of health products," the FDA said.
The FDA also advised all consumers to purchase food and drug products only from the FDA-licensed establishments. (ICT)
