BACOLOD City Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said on Sunday, Sept. 3, the implementation of the “no segregation, no collection” policy needs more information dissemination in the barangays.
Familiaran, chairman of Solid Waste Action Team (Swat), said they will produce more flyers to inform households on the implementation of the waste segregation.
He said that since the City Government started waste segregation on Sept. 1, only a few households have complied.
Familiaran said representatives of trash hauler IPM-Construction and Development Corp. will hold a meeting with barangay officials to present their garbage collection schedule and to distribute flyers on waste segregation.
IPM-CDC will collect the biodegradable waste every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and non-biodegradable waste every Tuesday and Thursday, and weekends.
Familiaran said he will hold a meeting today with the officers of the three big public markets and will ask them to host shredder machines.
The City Government purchased 14 units of shredding machines worth P5 million from the RU Foundry and Machine Shop Corp. also based in Bacolod.
The shredding machines will be distributed to interested barangays, which need to submit a proposal.
Aside from Barangays Cabug, Alangilan, and Pahanocoy, Barangays Handumanan, and Taculing also signified their intention to host the shredder machines.
Familiaran said he prefers to distribute the shredder machines to other public markets like those in Barangays Sum-ag and Granada.
“Let’s cooperate and follow the law. It is our obligation to implement Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act,” the vice mayor said.
