WHILE many in the 1990s were busily hooked on Gameboys and brick games when they were still 12-year-olds, this other person deviated from the norm by having a different sort of fascination.
Carlo Acuña, 20, a kimono collector and enthusiast recalled the story of how he had grown interest over Kimonos by coming across a certain Japanese TV show that highlighted kimonos eight years ago. He was mesmerized by the beautiful Japanese garment that it led him to further watch more videos and read articles relating to the subject via online.
Acuña narrated in an interview that his fascination with kimonos started way back when he watched a kabuki, a traditional Japanese form of theater through the aid of the internet.
The way one wears a Kimono is considered as an art form in Japan since not all people can manage to dress it nicely, Acuña said.
Since then he had developed the pleasure to collect Kimono by purchasing it through online transactions.
Acuña's collection comprised of the complete 12 sets of kimono which can be worn in all seasons. Japanese have an interesting way of dressing up since the wearing of the Kimono will help one determine the status of the person wearing it and his or her relationship towards the person hosting a certain occasion.
Acuña even goes beyond collecting kimonos as time flips by and even resorted to collect other traditional dresses from the Asian countries such as Korea, Vietnam, India, and China. All of his collections rest in their home in Calinan and are in fact available for renting. Other Japanese items put on display inside their house will also never cease to amaze visitors. They are like a testament that one of the occupants of the house is into Japanese stuff.
