THE Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa)-Davao and the Provincial Government of Davao del Sur signed last week a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to establish the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) help desk in the province.
Owwa-Davao director Eduardo Bellido said the signing of the agreement was made after the officers and members of the agency paid a courtesy to Davao del Sur Provincial Governor Douglas Cagas on Tuesday, September 13.
Bellido said the MOA will serve as an instrument to concretize respective goals of both entities in providing responsive, immediate and appropriate programs and assistance to OFWs and their families in the locality.
"The signing of the agreement marked the start of the noble partnership between the local government units and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Davao," Bellido said.
He added that the help desk intended for the OFWs will be placed at the Public Employment Service Office (Peso) and will be spearheaded by provincial Peso manager Rolly Impas, as designated by the governor.
The organization will serve as conduits of the agency in the implementation of its programs and services, Bellido said, adding that various training programs will also be conducted to strengthen and capacitate the organization.
Bellido earlier said with the OFWs help desk coordinators assigned in all municipalities and cities in Davao Region, immediate assistance will be provided to OFWs and their families without going to the regional office.
Owwa-Davao recorded 37,963 total OFWs from Davao del Sur who were legally processed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and Owwa as of July this year.
