WEST-1 team, manned by the mighty Rosevale School, and beefed up by players from Xavier University and Liceo de Cagayan University dominated the football competition of the 2016 Cagayan de Oro Athletic Association (COAA) Meet held here recently at Rosevale’s soccer pitch in uptown’s Xavier Estates.
In an awesome display of supremacy, the West 1 booters captured the titles in the secondary boys, elementary boys and secondary Futsal girls.
rWest 1’s secondary boys leaned on the lone goal of Rod Jose Pio Alenton early in the match to beat South Team,1-0 in the championship. The South team was manned by players from Corpus Christi High School and St. Mary’s School.
The West-1 boys advanced to the championship when they nipped East-2, 3-1 in a hotly-contested match.
East-2, anchored by the players from Abba’s Orchard School and Regional Science High School, scored first but the West-1 boys rallied to secure a championship slot.
Members of the West-1 squad from Rosevale School are Rocky Grant, Chev Magdale, Christian Jko Pupos, Rod Raphael Alenton, Rod Jose Pio Alenton, Kyle Viado, Zeke Valdehueza, Ethan Pelaez, and Carlyle Dy. Beefing them are the Xavier University’s Julian Tan, Rex Tapungot, Robin Tagle, Vince Wong and Danielle Hernandez. Ildrean Retuerto is the lone player from Liceo.
In elementary boys division, a solid Rosevale-powered West-1 team downed the South team bannered by Corpus Christi and St. Mary’s School skybooters, 2-0 in the final to pocket the gold medal.
RJ Caintic scored the two goals for the Rosevale kids to secure the victory. West-1 advanced to the final when they ripped Pagatpat Elementary School, 4-1 in the semis.
Other members of the Rosevale boys’ elementary team are Terrence Mayne, Muhammad Jamshed Dimaporo, Antonio Miguel Gue, Khalil Ong, Carlo Antonio Bongocan, Jeff Irvin Cascara,Miguel Estacio, Vincent Manubag, Jared Tan, John Quinito, Kyle Chaves, Rawin Gementiza, Armand Lugod, and Mohammad Domado Acoon. Rosevale’s coaching staff are made up of Dennis Bongocan, Mario Sumampong and Aliver Aguaviva.
West-1 also won the gold in secondary girls Futsal competition. Girls from Xavier University and Liceo de Cagayan University played for the West-1 team.
Louisse Peregrine Bongocan, daughter of Rosevale Boys Secondary team head coach Dennis Bongocan, was the lone player from Rosevale playing for the West-1 team.
