AFTER 17 years, the frequent arguments came to a bloody end when a wife shot her husband dead in Sitio Kalumbuyan in Barangay Tisa, Cebu City last Wednesday afternoon.
The couple, Renato and Miriam (real names withheld), lived separately but the husband often visited his youngest child in his wife’s house.
“Muanha na ang lalaki kay mubisita sa ilang kinamanghuran nga anak niya kada abot nila sa iyang asawa, maglalis gyud (The husband oftentimes visited his former wife’s house to see his youngest son and every time they met, it always ended in a fight),” SPO2 Rommel Bancog of the Homicide Section said.
According to their daughter Elisa, who is four months pregnant, her parents had not been on good terms and were always fighting because of a family problem.
Renato was a construction worker while Miriam is a street vendor. She is already living with a new partner.
At 2:30 p.m. last Wednesday, Renato went inside Miriam’s house and the two started fighting.
Miriam, in a fit of anger, went back inside her room to get her gun and when she emerged, she shot Renato in his arm.
She fled as the victim fell on the ground, bloodied.
Police believed that the bullet that went through his left armpit hit a major vein connected to the victim’s heart.
He was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared dead two hours later.
Bancog said that the couple’s eldest son will file a case of parricide against his mother.
“Ingon siya nga ig kahuman nilag pahimutang sa ilang amahan, diha na siya mo file og kaso (He said that after they bury his father, he will file the complaint),” the homicide investigator said.
He added that Miriam fired at Renato just to hurt him, without any intention of killing him.
When the operatives conducted a manhunt, Miriam’s house was already locked while residents in the area claimed that they saw her riding a motorcycle in a hurry.
The gun used in the crime was also not recovered.
Miriam remained at large as of press time.
