A SEVEN-MONTH illicit affair ended with the death of the woman who was stabbed by her lover.
Marie, 20, succumbed to a stab wound in the back, hitting her spinal column. The assailant Rainer, 30, also attempted to commit suicide by stabbing his chest.
Their affair blossomed as they worked together in a lumber store. Rainer serves as a driver, while Marie was the checker.
Initial investigation showed Rainer reportedly cannot accept that Marie was ditching him. The suspect is now confined in Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
The incident happened in Barangay Poblacion, Barili at 4 p.m. last Wednesday. Sun.Star Cebu withheld their real names to protect their families.
PO3 Rommel Patalinghug, investigator, said Marie went to work after she ended her affair with Rainer.
She got inside the warehouse and started checking the stocks of the store where she was employed, but the suspect
followed her.
Rainer insisted, telling Marie he wanted their romance alive. Their conversation became violent when the suspect started shouting at his lover, who insisted she no longer wanted him.
The suspect later searched for a knife and when he found one, he attacked Marie from behind.
After the victim fell on the floor, Rainer stabbed himself.
Patalinghug said they were able to talk with the suspect inside the ambulance and the latter admitted he got mad at Marie.
Fellow workers told the police they doubt the two had an affair and added the suspect is not fond of talking too much to them.
A murder complaint will be filed against the suspect before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor, if the suspect survives.
