DAVAO City's wushu team captured a total of four gold medals and four bronzes to place third overall in the just-concluded Batang Pinoy 2016 National Championships Wushu Sanda Tournament held at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City Wednesday, December 7.
Jennifer Kilapio, Angelica Mae Datulayta, Nhaya Mahal Paden, and Clyde Roderos pocketed one gold each in their respective events while the bronzes were courtesy of Christian Ental, Ronald Ferraren, John Paolo Galvan, and Jerome Vasquez.
Coach Chryster Terado of King's Sword Martial Arts, in a phone interview with VoxPop Davao, said all their hard work during the training paid off, although adding it was not all through their efforts.
"To God be the glory po, kasi binigay niya po talaga sa amin," he said.
He also said that they did not expect anything as he told this writer in previous interviews that most of his players are neophytes aside from Kilapio and Galvan.
"Di po namin in-expect magkaka-gold kami pero binigay lang po namin lahat kaya sobrang proud po ako sa kanila, (We didn't expect to get the gold medal/s but we gave our all, that's why I am so proud of them)" Terado said.
He cited that Datulayta, Paden, and Roderos were approached by a Wushu Federation of the Philippines official who saw a big potential in them, offering them an opportunity to train with the Philippine team.
While the rest of the team left for Davao, Terado remained in Manila for an upcoming Muay Thai competition.
