XAVIER University Lady Crusaders showed dominance in the local women’s football, besting Mindanao University of Science and Technology (Must) to rule the Loyola Football Cup tournament held recently at the XU field in downtown Divisoria, Cagayan de Oro City.
rThe Lady Crusaders swept MUST, 3-0 in their best-of-five series for the women’s crown.
XU Ladies leaned on one goal each from Desiree Castro and Arpil Borja to beat MUST, 2-0, in their first match of the 7-A-Side tournament, organized by Xavier University Athletics office.
The Lady Crusaders then relied on two goals each from Nikki Regalado and Desiree Castro for a 2-0 victory in their second match.
Gian Medalla and Borja then scored one goal each in their third match to secure the title for the Lady Crusaders.
Must fought hard in the third match and scored one goal allowing XU to win by only 2-1. Their efforts, however, went for naught as the Lady Crusaders held on to ensure the victory.
Completing the XU Ladies line-up are Mikhaela Adriane Nota, Rena Bersola, Rhodgie Sugano, Rodjie Sicat, and Saira Comie.
Meanwhile, Xavier University Teams A and B clash for the championship trophy today at 4 p.m. right after the battle for third place between MUST team A and B.
XU-team A downed Must team B, 4-0, in the semis to advance while XU team B nipped Must A, 1-0 to make the final.
Francis Joseph scored two goals for XU team A while Kyle Patron and John Arbon chipped in one goal each.
Juede Sabaldana scored the lone goal for XU B against Must–A.
Awarding ceremony will follow after the championship match. Chief organizer Ivan Caiña will give out the trophies.
