ST. FRANCIS Xavier Cup defending champion XUHS 1994 will test the mettle of Batch 2001 in tonight’s resumption of the 8th XUHS-ABA Basketball Tournament at XUHS covered courts here in uptown Pueblo de Oro.
Both Alumni 1994 and 2001 are coming hot with three successive wins since the season opening of the 2017 ABA hoopfest some weeks ago.
The 1994 dribblers are eyeing to duplicate their titular finish last year with a perfect record in 19 games, including a pair of victories in the finals against the ageless Xavier University United.
They are the second team in XUHS-ABA history to sweep all their season games next to five-time champions Batch 1999.
“1994 is still in top shape and they got a good run from the start but 2001 is getting aggressive,” said Dhon Lazo, the league’s tournament commissioner.
Batch 1995 (2-0) will try to sustain their winning ways against Alumni 1991 (2-1) in the curtain-raiser.
XUHS 1996 of playmaker Elich Alfante will face IAM 1998 of team manager John Victor “Nanay” Ocampo, while Batch 2007 takes the challenge of XUHS 2004.
