SOME 300 people participated in a three-day training-workshop on the implementation of community-based disaster risk reduction and management held in Zamboanga City on Tuesday, April 25.
The three-day activity, participated by representatives from different villages and other sectors, aims to empower the villages and to prepare them for emergency response in times of disasters or any eventuality.
The training, which is set to end on Friday, April 28, was organized by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in partnership with other concerned agencies. The activity is also part of the disaster-preparedness program of the city.
Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar cited the essence of the training-workshop stressing that in this time of uncertainties, it is best that village officials and volunteers, being in the front line, are equipped with the knowledge and skills on emergency response.
She urged the participants to put to heart all the teachings during the training-workshop and to act accordingly during emergency situations being the local government’s action persons on the ground.
During emergencies, immediate help will have to come from the community itself, as government response teams cannot be at the scene instantly, she added. (Bong Garcia/VoxPop Philippines)
