ZAMBOANGA City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar ordered police authorities to intensify campaign against pickpockets who prey on people in shopping malls, markets and other places of convergence during the Yuletide season.
Salazar said police visibility should be strengthened in the central business district and in all other crowded places to discourage and deter crimes.
Salazar got wind of reports of increasing pickpocketing incidences in the downtown area since the start of the Yuletide season.
The chief executive also advised the public to keep their valuables secure “so as not to attract malefactors.”
“Keeping valuables out of sight, secure and safe at all times is the best way to discourage pickpockets,” she added.
