BENEFICIARIES of the Summer Program for Employment of Students (SPES) are advised to “work seriously” and do their best to show love for Zamboanga City.
This was the message of Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar to the second batch of SPES beneficiaries, who have started working Thursday, May 11.
The second beneficiaries consisting of 1,366 mostly high school students underwent orientation on Wednesday, May 10, to familiarize them with roles, duties and responsibilities of a government worker.
Salazar administered the oath of office of the young government workers as she appealed to them to help support government plans and programs.
“Take your work seriously and do your best to show love for Zamboanga City,” Salazar told the SPES beneficiaries. They will be employed until June 2.
SPES is a joint undertaking of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) and local government units (LGUs) to help poor but deserving students pursue their education by providing income or augment their income through encouraging their employment during summer or Christmas vacations.
The LGUs will shoulder 60 percent of the salary of the beneficiaries while Dole will pay the remaining 40 percent. (Bong Garcia/VoxPop Philippines)
