Zamboanga Sibugay set to celebrate 16th founding anniversary

THE Provincial Government of Zamboanga Sibugay is undertaking the necessary preparations for the celebration of the 16th founding anniversary of the province on February 24.

Zamboanga Sibugay Governor Wilter Palma said the foundation day celebration will kick off on February 17 with a mass, parade, and opening program as well as agri-fishery and tourism fair.

Cultural presentations showcasing the tri people - Christian, Muslim and Indigenous Peoples - cultural tradition will follow after the opening program.

Araw ng Zamboanga Sibugay chairman Ulysses Chiong said all the 16 municipalities of the province are participating in the agri-fishery and tourism fair.

The other anniversary activities will include beauty pageant, sports events, free legal clinic, band competition, fiesta carnival, jobs fair, graduation of farmers field school, street dance competition, parachute exhibition, car and motor shows, and medical and dental as well as surgical missions.

The province of Zamboanga Sibugay was created through Republic Act 8973 passed on November 7, 2000 and signed into law by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on February 24, 2001.

Zamboanga Sibugay, which consists of 16 towns and 389 villages, was formerly the third congressional district of Zamboanga del Sur.

This year’s founding anniversary celebration is anchored on the theme “Sa pagbag-o adunay kalinaw ug kalamboan (In change, there will be peace and development).” (Bong Garcia/VoxPop Philippines)
