SANTA Cruz Island, one of the world’s 21 best beaches, was the center of activities with the opening on Sunday of the “Fiesta na Isla.”
Zamboanga City mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said the activity will feature a wide-array of beach and land activities and entertainment for a total of eight weekends.
The opening of the festival drew hordes of picnickers and beach-combers from far and wide to Sta. Cruz Island, famous for its pink-white sands where nature is preserved for everyone to enjoy.
Salazar said its opening on Easter Sunday, April 16, capped the long weekend that reeled off with the observance of the Holy Week.
The festival includes a variety of games and competitions that include a video competition showcasing the island, human sand sculpture, three-on-boat racing, island race and mussel-eating competition among others.
The festival will also see the active participation of the community members featuring their diverse culture in songs and dances.
