CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- About 63 personnel from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) joined in the agency's bloodletting activity.
BJMP Regional Community Relations Service Section Chief Jail Inspector Nigel Arellano said this is part of their social responsibility, which aims to benefit not only people deprived of liberty, but also the general public.
"We came up with various activities for the celebration of the Community Relations Service Month this June, but we think bloodletting is the most important because many people are in need of blood," Arellano said.
BJMP collected 16 bags of blood from the activity which was donated to the Philippine Red Cross.
Aside from bloodletting, BJMP will also conduct various activities this month such as the Legal Consultation Day, Read a Book, and Clean and Green.
"These activities are meant to inform the public that BJMP is not only limited to taking care of persons deprived of liberty but also extends its initiatives to the community," Arellano added.
This year's observance of Community Relations Service Month is anchored on the theme "Changing lives, Building a safer nation." (PIA)
