THE Provincial Government of Pampanga, through its "Alagang Nanay" program, continues to champion women's rights via projects aimed at empowering them.
According to newly-appointed "Alagang Nanay"-Arayat Project Coordinator Madeth Alejandrino, the program is now focused on providing sustainable livelihood to non-working and stay-at-home mothers in Arayat town.
"Most families in Arayat are still solely dependent on the father's income and moms' role is only to attend to the children and the house's needs and that's what we want to change," she said.
Alejandrino said providing livelihood to women helps increase the family's income while also allowing them to boost their skills and confidence.
She said livelihood projects are eyed for distribution within this March, in time for the celebration of International Women's Month.
"The types of livelihood that we are eyeing to distribute are those that they can do while at home like selling street food such as fish balls and the like, so that they can still look after their children and household chores. We don't want their responsibilities as mothers to be left behind because of this project," Alejandrino said.
Alejandrino, wife of incumbent Arayat Mayor Emmanuel Alejandrino, was appointed by Governor Dennis Pineda in her current position in February.
