ANGELES City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. has appealed to his constituents to stop all forms of discrimination against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) patients and their families.
The mayor issued the statement the Monday night, September 7, when he gave an update regarding the Covid-19 situation in the city.
"Nananawagan po ako sa inyo aking mga kababayan na huwag nating pairalin ang diskriminasyon sa mga indibidwal o pamilya na naapektuhan ng Covid-19," Lazatin said.
"Paalala lang po, may ordinansa po tayong ipinapatupad sa siyudad patunkol dito. Ito ay ang Ordinance Number 532 na nagbabawal sa anumang uri ng diskriminasyon kabilang na ang pamamahiya, pangungutya at pambabastos o kawalan ng respeto sa mga indibidwal o pamilya na naapektuhan sa Covid-19," he added.
The local chief executive solicited the support of the residents in the fight against the dreaded virus disease.
"Magkaisa po tayo at magtulungan ngayong panahon ng pandemya," Lazatin said.
The mayor also asked commercial establishments in the city to implement health protocols set by the city government to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The Business Permit and Licensing Division of the local government conducts a daily inspection of businesses in the city to ensure that government regulations are observed, according to Lazatin.
Some 1,457 individuals were arrested for violating City Ordinance Number 546, requiring all individuals to wear face masks and shields in public places and prohibits loitering in streets, the official said.
Lazatin said the total number of Covid-19 cases in the city has breached the 400 mark.
He said there are 161 active cases, 224 patients recovered from the virus, and 17 deaths as of September 7, 2020.
