BCDA scores high in corporate governance

THE Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) achieved its highest rating based on the 2019 Corporate Governance Scorecard (CGS) of the Governance Commission for Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GCG), with a rating of 98.96 percent.

The score shows BCDA's continuous improvement in delivering consistent and efficient policies and practices in corporate governance and stakeholder relations.

It is also pursuing disclosure and transparency, and implementing board responsibilities with competence and accountability in line with good governance conditions.

For the past five years, BCDA has been scoring over 90 percent on its performance scorecard. From 90.5 percent in 2015, it progressed to 94.5 percent in 2016 and went higher to 97 percent and 98.5 percent in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

The agency has been consistently named by the GCG as among the Top 10 performing government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) in the country.

BCDA President Vince Dizon said GCG's assessment "will inspire the whole BCDA Group to do better in providing the best services to all our stakeholders, and continue building a culture of excellence in public service."

The scorecard aims to raise corporate governance standards practices for GOCCs, patterned after the Asean Corporate Governance Scorecard and grounded on the Principles of Corporate Governance of State-owned Enterprises by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) at par with Asean state-owned enterprises.

GCG recognizes well-governed GOCCs and their potential as a significant contributor to the country's economic development as declared by Republic Act No. 10149 or the "GOCC Governance Act of 2011."
