MABALACAT City officials lauded the contributions of barangay (village) health workers or BHWs to the city government's health programs which benefit thousands of indigent patients.
Mayor Cris Garbo said the BHWs greatly contribute to the effective implementation of his health programs for the poor people.
The mayor issued the statement after the health workers received P730,000 worth of cash incentives recently.
Garbo and BHW head Maria Lenie Rabino led the distribution of the perks to some 146 BHWs covering the month of June this year.
The mayor thanked the barangay workers for "their untiring efforts in realizing the city health care program."
The BHWs in return said they feel fulfilled by serving their community as first responders in averting unnecessary child deaths.
The health workers also received monthly travel allowance.
