"I HAVE no second thoughts. I believe I am ready and it is time. I will run for mayor."
Thus said current Porac Vice Mayor Dexter David as he formally announced his decision to run for mayor of Porac town.
David said that his years in public service and his experience in helping his local community convinced him of his readiness to handle the top executive post of the municipal government.
David is serving his last term as vice mayor. He serves as vice mayor under Mayor Condralito dela Cruz, who is also on his last term as mayor.
David said that he has served Porac town in different elective positions and is now ready to take his style of public service to the next level.
David said that education, improvement of public education services, peace and order, livelihood and impact investments for Porac town will be at the center of his campaign agenda.
He added that access to health care, assistance to indigenous communities and renewed effort to provide basic services to poor communities will also be continued. He added that many of the concrete and beneficial programs of Mayor Dela Cruz should be continued in the next administration.
David said that, if given the chance to serve, he will be guided by the leadership legacy of his father. The late mayor Roy David had a soft spot for the people of Porac.
The elder David married the late Edna de Ausen, who also figured prominently in local politics. The siblings' mother also served as former Pampanga acting governor.
His father was a former town councilor and was appointed mayor in 1986 shortly after Edsa People's Power Revolution. Both distinguished themselves in public service.
"I will run because Poraquenos deserve good governance. I will do it to help the people and honor the legacy of my father and mother," Vice mayor David said.
David said that his administration will also focus on the development program for Porac town to make it ready for eventual cityhood in the next 20 years.
He added that the groundwork for the needed infrastructure, economic development and urban planning should be in place for the town to achieve faster development.
David is younger brother to Olga Frances "Fritzie" David-Dizon, currently a municipal councilor and ex-officio board member. David-Dizon is also the president of the Philippine Councilors' League (PCL) Pampanga Chapter. She was also former chief of staff of Governor Lilia Pineda.
