FORMER Santa Rita town councilor Mario de Ausen was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding suspects in front of his home in Barangay San Matias here on Wednesday evening, October 10.

Initial reports said that De Ausen was inside his private vehicle when he was shot by one of the suspects. De Ausen was waiting for the front gate of his house to open when he was shot.

De Ausen was still able to move his vehicle for a few meters before it skidded into a nearby canal. He was brought to the Diosdado Macapagal District Hospital but did not make it alive.

Senior Superintendent Nicolas Salvador said that they were able to apprehend two of the suspects who are now undergoing investigation.

"Nakuha natin 'yung isa sa suspek, 'yung mismong driver nung motor, 'yung getaway, at fortunately naman, we apprehended one of the suspects, the one driving the motorcycle getaway. Fortunately, through interrogation, it led us to San Luis where we got the hitman," Salvador said.

Salvador said that at least four people are now considered as "persons of interest" by the local police. The vehicle in the said incident was also reportedly recovered. Investigators are looking at the possible motive for the killing.
