THE local government unit (LGU) extended the deadline of first quarter payment of real property tax (RPT) amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

This was stated in Ordinance No. 24 recently passed by the City Council in consonance with the national government's effort to provide economic relief to individuals and businesses following the Luzon-wide ECQ to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The SP ordinance prescribes measures for temporary economic relief to the people and business establishments in the city following the extension of the lockdown until April 30, 2020.

The Anti-Red Tape Authority issued Advisory No. 01 Series of 2020 for the adoption of measures during the Covid-19 state of calamity, the ordinance stated.

The measure includes the extension of the deadline in the payment of first quarter RPT of the total tax dues for the purpose of availing the ten percent discount on prompt payment for calendar year 2020 to June 30, 2020.

It also stated the two percent monthly penalty is waived during the duration of the quarantine.

The ordinance took effect immediately after its approval on April 16.

Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Año said he sees another lockdown extension if the number of Covid-19 cases continue to increase.
