MASANTOL Mayor Danilo Guintu encouraged all parents and guardians to immunize their children against measles, rubella and polio.
During the launching of the Measles-Rubella Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity, Guintu stressed the importance of protecting the children from all types of diseases, especially if a vaccine is available and proven effective.
"We are in the midst of a health crisis due to Covid-19 and everyone is scrambling for the vaccine, but the vaccine for measles, rubella and polio, were developed long ago and have saved hundreds of thousands of children along the way," he said.
The mayor told parents and guardians to coordinate with rural health workers or bring their children to the nearest health center from February 1 to 28 for a free vaccination.
Children aged nine months to five years old can be immunized against measles-rubella, while children up to five years of age are eligible for oral polio vaccine.
"Let us save and make our children healthy by giving them these recommended vaccines," he said.
