SAN Simon Mayor Leonora Wong called on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to immediately repair the badly deteriorated portion of MacArthur Highway in this town following the complaint aired by affected motorists and commuters.
Wong said that the flooding and potholes, particularly in the portion of CDCP junction, have been affecting hundreds of motorists and hampering the daily transportation of workers and students who use the major thoroughfare on a daily basis.
"The San Simon portion of MacArthur Highway, particularly the CDCP junction, serves almost all commuters and motorists from the fourth district, and serves as an entry and exit point of the North Luzon Expressway and its current deteriorated and flooded situation cause a lot of inconvenience," Wong said.
"I understand that the DPWH has a lot of work to do but I am appealing to them to include in their priority the repair of the MacArthur Highway so it can serve its purpose in the transportation system of San Simon and other affected towns," she added.
Wong also suggested to the DPWH to create a flood control plan for the CDCP junction where flash but slow-to-subside floodwaters has been a usual occurrence after heavy downpours.
"They must provide a solution to the flash floods that regularly occur at CDCP. We have been implementing activities such as pumping out of water and providing alternative routes to resolve the situation and appease the affected motorists, but those are just temporary. What we need is a long term answer to the perennial flooding problem," she said.
